Colin Partington from BNFL, who led our discussion at Sellafield, told me, "They were a great bunch, really interested, and asked penetrating questions. I enjoyed it. Ask me again."
It was good for some of the employees at Sellafield to meet you and realise that there are so many chaplains. Since you left I have been asking those you met at lunch which of you they were talking to.
One chap had difficulty in remembering: after closing his eyes in thought he muttered, in frustration, "Christ.".
I said, "Really!".
He added, "He was chaplain at Barrow shipyard."
Well done Tom Luke, that's a big promotion for you!
Thank you all for coming and for your individual contributions in making 2004 a very successful conference. May each of you have a good year in all you do for Him.
And how was it for you, Doug
Doug McDevitte who is the resident chaplain at Sellafield, reflects on the visit and the after effects and addresses the chaplains.
It was a delight for me to see all of your familiar faces in my (adopted) area: it gave me a great uplift.
An added benefit of this conference in terms of outreach was that we were meeting, for the first time, in a secular location - a conference and training centre for BNFL, with many people coming and going, and other events taking place concurrent with ours.
The 'transport team' in the adjacent room were impressed, if deafened, by the singing of the 'God Squad' next door.
It was useful for local people to be given the chance to tell you about the difficult economics and fear of more employment in the area, which is so physically attractive.
Thank you for your interest in the area, in its major industry and in the energy and climate change situation. Thank you for your intelligent contributions throughout.
